introduction

Klemis Kitchen is a food pantry on Georgia Tech's campus where students can go to receive donated food. My team saw an opportunity to improve distribution, communication, and inventory updates between students and Klemis staff with an iPhone app in order to support a decentralized system in the future.

project goals

improving Klemis Kitchen
Before the app, Klemis Kitchen had no formal automatic inventory system in place; they relied on staff members to regularly check and maintain the food pantry. Additionally, students were notified of food drop offs and announcements by email only.

user journey

Once donations are received, the Klemis staff enter the food into the POS system to update the inventory that both staff and students view.

Students can view the inventory remotely and use photo recognition or the POS system when they arrive at the location to scan out food.

With an interconnected inventory system and multiple ways to update the inventory, staff members are able to more effectively manage resources and automatically show students up to date inventory information.

In addition to including features that facilitate communication among staff members, the app provides a platform for communication between staff members and students.

With the capabilities of the new Klemis App, Klemis Kitchen has the potential to support and maintain a variety of satellite locations on Georgia Tech’s campus.
staff capabilities
Staff members can sort locations by proximity or priority level. The tasks feature allows staff members to view and create important tasks to be completed for the week.

Once a location is selected, staff can easily see specific foods that need to be restocked with the scrollable Low Inventory chips.
POS System
At each Klemis location, staff members can use the POS system to input new inventory and students can check out without the use of the app.
